In the fall of 2000, Switzerland opened the world’s first ‘scientific consulate’ in Cambridge, Massachusetts. 15 years later, swissnex is a global network, with offices in Boston, Brazil, China, India, Singapore, and San Francisco. To celebrate the occasion, we invite you to drop by on the afternoon of Friday October 9, to say hello and have a look at a big piece of innovation, naturally Swiss made: the world’s largest rowing boat, also known as the Stämpfli Express!
A Boat Like No Other
At 144 feet long, the Stämpfli Express seats 24 rowers in a single line. That’s about as long as a blue what and her baby!

144 feet is very long indeed.
Find Us on the Green
The boat will be displayed on the green in front of the Cambridge Public Library, right across the street from swissnex Boston. For this special event, The Canton of Basel-Stadt, sister state of Massachusetts and our partner for this event, will be there to welcome you with a fun quiz… and there’s nothing less than a trip to Switzerland at stake!
There will also be a drawing contest, all ages welcome. For this contest, start thinking about what else might be 144 feet length – and be ready to draw your ideas for a prize. Rumor has it: there will be some chocolate as well— you don’t want to miss this! We’re looking forward to seeing you on the green in front of the Cambridge Public Library, right across the street from swissnex Boston!
